Fragment of a Misfired Vessel Base (Waster?)
Not on view
This fragment of a base of a vessel shows a charcoal-dark body and an overburnt glaze, suggesting that it was dramatically overfired. Its finding spot at a kiln site in Nishapur further suggests that the object was likely considered a waster that never made it to the market. At the ceramic workshop, however, it may well have had an alternative use, such as a stand or separator during the manufacture of other ceramics.
