Tribal Carpet with Medallion Design
Not on view
Later Anatolian village carpets woven with medallion designs were probably influenced by earlier court or commercial production, retaining the cornerpieces and other aspects of their original design. This example, however, reinterprets the traditional layout in an unusually powerful and effective manner, clearly recalling the early "Ghirlandaio" and "Holbein" carpets of the fifteenth century.
