Mashrabiyya Screen

Not on view

This is a turned lattice-work screen called a mashrabiyya. The large panels once formed an architectural window in a house in late medieval or Ottoman Egypt. The panels show two different kinds of mashrabiyya-making techniques. The salibi or cross-shaped one is shown in both the middle and the small panels. The maymoun, meaning "blessed," technique is shown on the upper panel.
