This sheet may have served as a preparatory study for the figure of Saint Sebastian in a painting, God the Father and Saints, in the church of San Domenico, Siena. In the painting, the serpentine figure of Saint Sebastian is similarly posed with his arms bound to a tree. Both works may be attributed to a follower of the Sienese artist Sodoma.
