Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is a comic novel by Anita Loos that follows the romantic adventures of blonde gold digger Lorelei Lee. The original book, published in 1925, was illustrated by Ralph Barton, the designer of this fabric. Here, he has turned the multiple overlapping images of a blonde woman pursued by top-hatted gentlemen (who have turned their backs on sad brunettes) into a play on Futurist art, which glorified dynamism, speed, and modern technology.
