In 1915, Ralph Barton was sent to Paris by Puck magazine to sketch scenes of World War 1. During this first visit, he fell in love with the city, returning to live there at times. Barton’s bird’s-eye view map of Paris was one of the most popular Americana Prints in Series I of the textile line and was one of only two patterns (along with Clayton Knight’s Manhattan)that remained in the line for Series II.
