Food Cup (Choku) with Stylized Flowers and Foliate Scroll
This graceful vessel served as a mukōzuke, a small dish for sashimi or side offerings. Its form, with straight walls that rise in an inverted trapezoid shape, later inspired the development of another, mass-produced blue-and-white version to serve dipping sauce for soba (soba choko). In contrast to its ornate exterior, the interior of the cup is left plain white, while a pair of underglaze-blue lines encircles the foot ring. In both form and decoration, the piece exemplifies the refined elegance characteristic of Nabeshima porcelain.
