Octagonal-fluted vase

China

Not on view

This octagonal-fluted vase attests to a cycle of artistic exchange across media, regions, and time periods. Realized through the use of modern European glass technology, the design of this vessel was inspired by ninth-century Yue celadon ware. Interestingly, these early Chinese celadon vessels were themselves believed to have been inspired by imported glass vessels from Central and West Asia.
