Figurine of a kneeling god, probably Shu

Ptolemaic Period

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 899

This exquisite figurine depicts a kneeling god with his arms raised, a gesture that is well known in representations of the gods Shu and Heh. Although the piece is incomplete, small remains of a raised object on the top edge show that the god had a sun disk on his head. This is known for both gods, although it is more likely that Shu is represented here.
