A group of ladies in elegant garments and their attendants compose verse at a New Year’s poetry gathering. In the alcove of the leftmost print are imaginary portraits of the Three Gods of Poetry (Waka sanjin), namely Sumiyoshi, Tamatsushima, and Kakinomoto no Hitomaro.
