Two fragments of a Book of the Dead papyrus in the collection belonged to a man named Amenhotep who was overseer of the builders of Amun. One fragment (30.8.70a) preserves parts of Chapters 42 and 64. The second (30.8.70b) preserves Chapter 78.
Purchased in Egypt by Theodore M. Davis, 1890. Bequeathed to the Museum by Davis, 1915; accessioned, 1930.
