Whirlpool
Krishna Reddy American, born India

Throughout his career, Krishna used radiating lines to convey a sense of movement. In the mid-1960s, he began to make allover compositions created almost exclusively with these lines, which he combined with sophisticated textural and tonal effects. Here, he eliminated extraneous details to focus on the vortex of a whirlpool and the cresting and cascading pools of water drawn into its orbit. Amplifying the sense of dynamism and energy seen in his 1960 etching River, he created a dramatic work that captures nature at its most magnificent and dangerous.
