Roundel with Four-Clawed Dragon (Mang)

China

Not on view

A distinction was drawn between the five-clawed dragon (long) and the four-clawed dragon (mang), which represented lower ranks. The striped water pattern seen here at the bottom center of the roundel developed during the Qing dynasty.
