Landseer and His Connoisseurs

Engraver George Edward Perine American
1869
Not on view
This half-length image represents Landseer with a drawing board on his lap, and two dogs looking over his shoulder as if appraising his work. The print reproduces a self-portrait that the aritst painted for Edward, Prince of Wales (1865; Royal Collection) titled "The Connoisseurs" and likely was basaed on a mixed method engraving by Samuel Cousins, published in London in 1867 (see 62.600.575 for an example of the latter in the Met's collection).
