Wilton album, folio 49b: Three tritons, one of them blowing a trumpet, riding six horses in the sea during a storm; two putti blowing wind on them in the upper left corner; one of five frieze prints depicting sea creatures and monsters in the album
One of five frieze prints depicting sea creatures and monsters on folios 48a and 49; 27.78.1(168-172)
For more information on the Wilton album see entry for 27.78.1(1-428)
Placed in the Wilton Album among the work of Bartolomeo Passerotti, these etchings appear to be close in design and format to Flemish etchings of the mid-sixteenth century. The free handling and etching technique, however, have much in common with Bolognese and northern Italian etchings of the later sixteenth century
