Textile Design with Overlapping Groups of Five Undulating Vertical Stripes of Pearls and Shuttle-Shaped Motifs
Rectangular sheet of paper with a textile design from a group, dated 1840, made in Mulhouse, Alsace, which was an important nineteenth-century center for textile production in the Haut-Rhin region of France. The design is made up of a brown base over which overlapping groups of five undulating vertical stripes of pearls of light tan color run through. In the spaces between the undulating stripes, shuttle-shaped motifs of white color and black outline stand out.
