Rectangular sheet of paper with a textile design from a group, dated 1840, made in Mulhouse, Alsace, which was an important nineteenth-century center for textile production in the Haut-Rhin region of France. The design is made up of alternating rows of ellipses ontaining stylized S-shapes separated by horizontal undulating garlands of branches of light tan color with offsetting thorns rendered with stipples of dark reddish-brown color decorated with pearls and rosettes with five petals over a light tan ground with stipples of dark reddish brown color. The S-shapes are colored alternatingly with orange and purple; the ellipses are colored with red. The pearls and rosettes are colored with white.
