A weary, but jubilant crowd arrives at the City Hall in Paris after successfully storming the Bastille, a critical event in precipitating the French Revolution. The caption for this wood engraving, published in the "Le Journal Illustré," explains that it was made after a steel engraving by Jazet, which was in turn after a painting by Delaroche. The painting, now in the collection of the Petit Palais, was part of a state commission to celebrate the heroes of the Revolutions of 1789 and 1830 intended for the Throne Room of the Paris City Hall.
