Ornamental designs with bundles of stylized flowers and leaves
Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This plate contains a variety of historic ornamental designs, possibly executed after 16th- or 17th-century prints. In the center is a rectangular frame with strapwork and scrolls, decorated with small fruit motifs, and with a roundel with scrolling, semi-abstract acanthus leaves in the center. Above it is an ornamental knot with thin acanthus leaves, and below it is a base with a grotesque inside a frame, flanked to the sides by strapwork with C-curves, interlaced by scrolling acanthus leaves, from which hangs a strip of semi-abstract flower buds. Another base, made with scrolling acanthus leaves, is on the upper part of the sheet, above the ornamental knot. Other knots and smaller design motifs, most of them decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves and strapwork, a vase with a grotesque, and two monograms with the letters "C" and "P", fill the rest of the page.
