Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This plate contains a design for an ornamental frame, its base made up of scrolling acanthus leaves and strapwork, some of them flanking two shell motifs, and with two mermaids forming the outer sides of the frames, each accompanied by a small putto, holding thin garlands with roses and leaves thar decorate the frame. On the scrolls that make up the sides of the base stand two vases: one, small and pear-shaped, which holds a small bundle of roses, small, stylized flowers, and leaves, and a larger one, with scrolling motifs, and two C-curves above, holding a female buts, the head crowned by a shell motif and the neck framed by a large, shell-shaped collar. A thin garland of roses and leaves scrolls upwards around this frame, and another garland hangs from the outer shoulder of the female bust. The two females are flanked above by scrolling acanthus leaves and scrolling strapwork, with a thin grid of lozenges between them, upon which stand two winged putti. The putti recline on scrolling motifs that make the upper part of the frame, and each of them holds a flaming torch. The central-upper part of the frame is made up of scrolling acanthus leaves, holding a couple of love birds, flanked above by a sleeping putto and below by a flaming torch with a love trophy, made up of an arch and a cone with arrows, attached to it by a thin garland of roses and leaves. Inside the frame is a large fountain with a shell and a dolphin, with winged putti playing around it, and a long-haired nude female caressing a swan behind it. The design is executed with black ink on thin, light brown paper.
