Textile designs with garlands of stylized flowers and leaves
Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This plate contains three textile designs with garlands of stylized flowers and leaves. The first design is made up of strips of rosettes made up of simple interlacing strapwork, and thin, interlacing branches with stylized leaves and bundles of grapes, on a dark ground executed with stipples and thin, vertical, undulating lines. The second design is made up of tilted, thin undulating branches with leaves and scrolling offsets with small stylized flowers and flower buds, executed with thin, black lines, over a background with diagonal, undulating branches with offsetting leaves made with black stipples on a clear ground. The third design is made up of diagonal undulating garlands with flowers and hanging stylized flowers, rendered alternatingly with thin, black lines, over a background with vertical stripes, rendered alternatingly with black stipples. The designs would have likely been used for printed textiles or wallpapers, and although they are executed with black ink on thin, light brown paper, they would have probably been printed with lively colors in the manufactured products.
