Design drawing for enameled covered jar
Designer Tiffany Furnaces American

This design drawing is from the Tiffany Studios and depicts a highly finished rendering of an enameled covered vase. The designer’s deft handling of the watercolor medium was particularly effective in the luminous colored washes in varying shades of purple, blue, green, and pink, and is admirably enhanced by the use of graphite hatching. Tiffany added enamel work to his oeuvre in about 1898, and the women who were executing the enamel work demonstrated sensitive handling of the medium, in their delicate shading and coloristic properties, admirably suggested in this drawing.
