In October 1844, Louis Philippe, King of the French, crossed the Channel to make a week-long visit to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at Windsor Castle. This naval scene shows the king's ship, "Le Gomer" accompanied by supporting vessels in Portsmouth Harbor on October 8th. The print comes from a bound set of twenty-five lithographs published in 1846 to commemorate the journey. Related text, pp. 9-12 describes the subject.
