Landscapes with architectural ruins feature prominently on maiolica dishes made in Pavia, a city in the Lombardy region of Italy, during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century. In spite of their natural setting, the imaginary vistas painted by Siro Antonio Africa and his nephew Siro Domenico evoke the extravagant theater sets of the Baroque stage.
