Syrup Jug

1852–58
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
This syrup jug has two different glazes: a high glaze inside and a "smear" glaze on the exterior. The same white palm tree design is found on a similar jug, 47.90.92. This piece is rare because it has a light brown background instead of the royal blue background typically found on Parian pieces of this period.
