With its high waist, leg o'mutton sleeves, and swelling bell-shaped tiered skirt with embroidered trim at tiers as well as cuff and neck, this 1830s dress demonstrates the gentle dilations of the silhouette that occured during the nineteenth century and that pumped and shaped the body in variable directions and forms, filling our the repertoire of trims and adornments.
