Dedicatee Bessie Potter Vonnoh American
Not on view
In this color etching made from five plates, Raffaëlli portrays an elderly woman standing on her balcony, momentarily distracted from her task of watering the plants. The artist dedicated this print to Bessie O. Potter, later Bessie Potter Vonnoh, an American sculptor, whom he met in Chicago in April 1895. Raffaëlli’s work was well received in the United States and Potter played an important role in placing his work in American collections.
