Candlestand (flambeau de jardin) with shade (one of a pair)
The glass shades would prevent the candle from being extinguished in a draft and these so-called hurricane lamps were, therefore, not only decorative but also highly practical. The Vitruvian scrolls and laurel leaf swags are typical for the Neoclassical style fashionable during the Louis XVI period.
