Ancestral Puebloan (Salado)

Not on view

Diverse civilizations known collectively as Ancestral Puebloan flourished in the southwest of what is now the United States before the arrival of Europeans. Salado polychrome ceramics (also known as Roosevelt Red Ware) is a type of late prehistoric pottery found in Arizona and New Mexico. The striking geometric design is achieved by applying black and white slip over a red ware. Four circular "bull's eye" designs were painted below the interior rim.
