Tête-à-tête

ca. 1887
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
Although brass beds from the late nineteenth century are common, other types of American furniture constructed of that metal are quite rare, especially in such an unusual form as this tête-à-tête. It was given to Thomas Stonewall Kyle (1865–1940) and Sudie Wainwright Murphy (1867–1946) as a wedding gift in 1887.
