This print depicts a scene from the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, where Lord Krishna, shown at right, holds the arm of his devotee, Satyaki, who has his sword drawn in defense of Krishna against the Kauravas. Krishna has been sent at the request of Yudhishthira, one of the Pandavas, to beseech the Kauravas to keep the peace. However, upon his arrival, Krishna is treated with scorn and contempt, and the Kauravas even attempt to take him captive, so inciting warfare.
