Taste (Gustus), from a series of The Five Sense
Anonymous, Flemish, 16th century Flemish
Not on view
This engraving shows an allegory of "taste", one of the five senses. The depiction consists of a woman and a monkey eating fruit. They are seated in front of an architectural structure characterized by two round pillars. A Latin inscription is added at the bottom of the print. There are no inscriptions to identify the artists involved in the making of this print, but it is likely part of the same series as the representation of "Auditus" or "hearing" in the collection of the British Museum (1996,1103.3).
