Several architects worked on New York's Custom House. Original designs by Ithiel Town and Alexander Jackson Davis were taken over by Samuel Thomson who made modifications and oversaw the construction of the foundation. When he resigned from the project in April 1834, he took his plans with him, forcing the final architect, John Franzee, to create new designs fitting the existing foundations. They are shown here as a floor plan, cross-section, elevation and perspective view of the main facade. Franzee supervised construction between 1837 and 1842.
