Frieze with an ongoing Pattern of Bandwork and Moresques

Attributed to Master F Italian
ca. 1525–40
Not on view
This print contains the design for a frieze with an ongoing pattern of moresques combined with bandwork. The pattern is executed in black on a blank background. The print is part of a group of engravings with moresque patterns that are generally attributed to a Venetian printmaker referred to as "Master F". Differences in execution suggest that more than one artist was involved in their making. A previous owner of this print manipulated the pattern by cutting out the central motif and readhering two parts of the frieze back together. The Museum owns another impression of this print (53.600.468) which shows the frieze with its central motif.
