Ganesh Haloi Indian

Not on view

Untitled evokes the rhythms and patterns of the natural world. Yellow and green triangles and parallelograms suggest treetops and sunlight. Short, thick black lines crisscross like branches and darker shaded areas seem like layers of shadow in a lush forest. Vertical lines dividing the composition lend a structural precision that characterizes many of Haloi’s pictures. His distillation and abstraction of Indian landscapes and seascapes are forcefully evident in this drawing. It captures the energetic vicissitudes of a transforming terrain, deriving as much from Haloi’s study of ancient Buddhist civilizations as from the influence of modern artists Vasily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, and Joan Miró. Haloi’s work is an ongoing exercise in celebrating the elemental, geometric shapes in the organic, natural world.
