The Peacock No. 2, The Blue Forest Series
Boris Aldridge creates tiles in the luster painted technique that was perfected in Kashan, Iran in the early medieval period. In Iran, luster tiles were made to cover entire buildings, bearing both text and image in elaborate programs of decoration that drew on visual and poetic elements. Boris Aldridge brings together those elements of style, technique, epigraphy, and imagery to create a modern response to the medieval tradition. Here the tile features a peacock with lyrics from his music, whereas medieval pieces would have featured classical Persian poetry.
