The laundress of Huilulco (Puebla)

Pablo Esteban O'Higgins American

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 690

O’Higgins was an American-born artist who moved permanently to Mexico City in 1924 and, in 1937, became a founding member of the Taller de Gráfica Popular. He was a committed Communist, and many of his prints address themes of work and labor, of which this is an example. A woman kneels on rocks by a river, undertaking the demanding work of washing clothes.
