A scene from a later version of the Uttar Kanda chapter of the Ramayana rather than from Valmiki’s classic version, depicting Rama and Lakshmana confronting the twin brothers Luv and Kush, whose identity as his son’s born of Sita, is not yet known to Rama. They twin boys have tethered the white horse, seen center, which Rama has instructed roam free across his kingdom, so triggering a conflict with Rama’s armies. Inscribed in Bengali and English
