Vase
Joseph Fortune Meyer was Newcomb's "master potter" who not only made the pots, but also experimented with new glaze techniques. Meyer received a medal for his work at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904. Sadie Irvine, the decorator of this vase, graduated from Newcomb College in 1906 and worked at the pottery as a decorator, craftsman, instructor, and finally, as head of the pottery department. The soft green and blue matte glaze, and stylized landscape of trees draped with Spanish moss with the moon visible under the branches, is characteristic of Newcomb's later pieces.
