Box
Small boxes from the mid-eighteenth century, such as this one, are uncommon. A Boston area origin for this example is suggested by the inlay patterns: the compass stars are a simplified version of a kind introduced in that city in the 1730s, as on 10.125.62, and the stringing is a crude version of a type sometimes found there, on pieces such as 1976.229.
