Foot Scraper

Sonn (1928) notes that this type was fairly common in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries and found frequently in the American colonies, particularly Massachusetts and Connecticut. These "side-attached" scrapers are illustrated (perpendicular brace pointing down) on the outside of frame houses (Early American Wrought Iron, Vol. 3, pp. 126–29).
