Gold appliqués

late 4th–3rd century BCE
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 162
The appliqués comprise several groups, including stars, crescents, and pelta (small shield) shapes, as well as three single examples—a palmette, an acanthus frond, and a star with sixteen rays. They were used to adorn a garment or, possibly, a headdress such as the polos worn by the two terracotta busts also displayed here.
