Textile Design with Paisley Motifs and Garlands of Berry Sprays and Stylized Flowers

Rectangular sheet of paper with a textile design from a group purchased from Harvey W. Brewer in 1968. The design consists of two paisley motifs separated by vertical garlands of berry sprays. The garlands contain stylized blueberries, rosettes of pink color, stylized leaves of yellow and green color, and offsetting stylized wheat ears colored with yellow and pink. The paisley shapes are colores with pink and carmine, their frames decorated with stylized leaves colored with bright tones of yellow and green. The paisley shape on the left contains palmettes of pink color, flanked by leaves of green color, and decorated with blue accents and pearls of white color. The paisley motif on the right contains rosettes of different forms executed with bright tones of yellow, blue, green, and pink. The design also contains a horizontal garland in the bottom, consisting of stylized flowers colored in pink and blue, and scrolling leaves of black color.
The design contains an inscription on top: "No. 3 - Nous ne craindrions de faire graver cette bordure telle qu'elle avec les deux palmiers, l'objet d’entre deux est charmant mais nous pensons qu'il y aurait de l'inconvénient a faire une aussi grande planche, nous pifons pour la palme de gauche seule a telle qu’elle." The inscription not only indicates that the drawing is for a border design and is part of a series, but also suggests that it is a design for a printed textile, as a plate would be needed in order to transfer the design to the finalized product. In such a case, the design would be printed on cotton or silk, and might be used in the fabric of a day dress.
The design is also signed on the bottom-right, containing the name of H. Minder fils.
