Preliminary drawing of a head and foot
Blocks of fine limestone such as this were used to line the walls of the tomb chapel and provide a surface for the decoration. Visible here is the preliminary drawing of a head in profile and the front of a foot from the register above, meant as the basis for relief carvings that were never completed.
