Plate 4 of a series of designs for mantelpieces, paneling and doors. This plate shows a protruding mantelpiece. Over the fireplace is a mirror topped by a mascaron. On the sides are panels and mirrors. On either side of the mirrors are oval medallions framed with simple foliage scrolls. Under the mirrors are small shelves supported by consoles. Consoles are also used, as pairs, at the top of the wall. Between the pairs of consoles are garlands and masks.
