Theatrical costume for the number 'O Leo' in "At Home Abroad"
Drawing, design for a man's costume, part of a group of 88 costume designs by Vincente Minnelli. The costume was designed for the number 'O Leo', from the musical 'At Home Abroad', created for the Shuberts and performed in Broadway in 1935. It consists of a broad-shoulder, brown jacket with rounded, white lapels with golden stars and a matching white belt with golden buckle and stars, under a figure-hugging, white turtleneck sweated and white shorts with brown buttons and trimmings, worn with long, white socks with brown bands and tassels, pointed-toe brown shoes, long, red gloves, and red hat with small, green, scrolling feather. A sketch of a back view of the costume, executed with graphite, is at the right.
