Gazing at Mountains from the Riverbank
This small work shows C.C. Wang engaging with the legacy of Shitao (1642–1707), one of his favorite painters. Wang adopts Shitao’s palette of dilute sienna and indigo, along with Shitao’s wetly applied contour lines, which bleed into the absorbent painter, evoking the humid, mist-suffused Yangzi Delta region where Wang was born.
