Meditation Room
Like many of Mohammed Sami's works, Meditation Room presents what appears to be a domestic interior fraught with mystery and dread. "You sense something but you're not able to name it," the artist explains. Paired with the lighting and the stage-like space in front of the door, the head-on perspective lends a dramatic air, implying the possibility of a presence just behind the door. A vivid, blue-green carpet appears buckled in the foreground, indicating a recent disturbance. The poster of an unidentified man in a military uniform might indicate that the work is set within Sami's home country of Iraq.
