[Tear Sheet of Junior Bazaar Contents and Masthead]
When Carmel Snow invited Bassman to art direct a magazine for girls, Alexey Brodovitch balked, insisting that he share credit with his protégé. Although his influence is palpable in Junior Bazaar’s pages, he contributed only sporadically to their design. He and Bassman were nevertheless co-listed as art directors for years. This issue—one of the first to exclusively feature Bassman on the masthead—was also among the last she oversaw before resigning her post.
