Evening slippers

Department Store J. Ferry French

Not on view

At once classic and unique, this pair of evening slippers is an iconic style from the period, atypically rendered in vibrant purple panné velvet. The unusual color and material suggest that the shoes were custom made to match a garment. The wearer of these shoes, Abigail Kinsley Norman Prince (1860-1949), was dressed by the top Parisian couturiers including Worth, Paquin, and Doucet.
